StancoInsider.com Endorses Sheriff Adam Christianson for Re-Election.
StancoInsider: What would you like Stanislaus County residents to know about the recent budget cuts?
Sheriff Christianson: Everyone has been affected by the economy. Public Safety, Education, Business etc. We will do our very best to protect and serve the citizens of Stanislaus County with the resources we have.
StancoInsider: How will cutting 52 employees impact the Sheriff’s department?
Sheriff Christianson: This is a very personal and painful process for all of us. We worked very hard to recruit, hire and train good quality, well qualified men and women to protect and serve the community. We will continue to answer calls for service, keep the worst of the worst criminals in custody and focus on the future, once again strengthening our resources as the economy improves.
StancoInsider: How will cutting 52 employee’s impact the publics safety?
Sheriff Christianson: You may see a potential increase in response times, certain calls for service may be diverted to our telephone reporting unit or our on-line reporting system. Services and access to remote facilities will be reduced but again, our focus is to ensure that we continue to live in a safe community. We will strengthen existing partnerships and expand our collaborative efforts throughout the community, working toward that goal.
StancoInsider: What advice do you have for Stanislaus County residents who will now be expected to endure even longer wait times for police services?
Sheriff Christianson: Get engaged in your community. Volunteer to lead Neighborhood Watch. Share Crime Prevention education information with others and share information about criminal activity with law enforcement. Strengthen your partnership with law enforcement agencies and help us keep our community safe.
StancoInsider: What advice do you have for residents who are experiencing problems with gang activity and drug dealing operations in their area?
Sheriff Christianson: Tell us about it. Don't be afraid to share information so we are able to respond. If you want to remain anonymous, use CrimeStoppers to let us know about criminal activity.
StancoInsider: What would you like to say to residents who are fearful that this reduction in staff could have serious implications for them?
Sheriff Christianson: Don't be afraid. As members of the community, we all have the ability to join together and fight against the criminals who victimize our community.
StancoInsider: Is this the time for residents to legally arm themselves for their own protection?
Sheriff Christianson: I support the 2nd Amendment and the citizens right to own firearms. We live in a safe community and face the same public safety challenges that other communities face with respect to gangs and narcotics. Many people in the community own firearms.
StancoInsider: Is there anything you would like to say to Stanislaus County residents at this time?
Sheriff Christianson: Let's work together to keep our community safe.
