One of our greatest challenges in public safety will always be effectively communicating with the community. Often times, the only local news you may get is from print media and while our relationship with The Modesto Bee is good, there seems to be a focus on what's bad in the community instead of what's good. I'm here to tell you that while we face many challenges keeping our communities safe, there is much more good than bad, we simply don't hear or read about it.
Now, while you may read about lawsuits in local print media that rarely provides you with all the facts, know that we hold our employees to a higher standard of conduct, behavior and performance. We hold them accountable and we treat everyone fairly, professionally and appropriately without bias.

So, while we're faced with many challenges, we are successful. The Community is safer today. Our crime rates are the lowest they've been in two decades.

We will continue to protect and serve everyone in Stanislaus County with the resources we have focusing on results, partnerships and collaboration. Working together we can make a difference.

As for what you hear or read, judge for yourself and we believe you will come to the same conclusion as many other people in the community, your Sheriff's Department is healthy and strong, ready to protect and serve all of us.
One of my greatest frustrations is our inability to effectively communicate with the citizens we serve and reassure them we will always do what's right, no matter the cost or consequence, and that we hold their trust and confidence in us as one of our highest priorities.
Overcoming The Communication Problem Is Challenging.
